Ankiti Bose is the co-founder and CEO of Zilingo, a multi-service platform that enables more than 6,000 factories and 75,000 merchants from all over the world to trade with each other effortlessly. The idea for her $1 billion start-up began while on vacation with friends in Bangkok in 2014. During a shopping excursion at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bose noticed that none of the 11,000 independent merchants offered their merchandise online because they were not trained in financing, scaling-up, website design and procurement. The following year, 23-year-old Bose left her position as an investment analyst at Sequoia Capital in Bangalore to launch Zilingo. The company addresses the issues in the fashion industry by ensuring the consumer pays a fair price, the brand knows the source of the products and how they were made, and the factory workers – who tend to be mostly women – are paid fairly and receive benefits, including health insurance. As of 2019, Zilingo has over seven million active users. Bose has been featured in Forbes Asia’s “30 Under 30” list in 2018, as well as Fortune’s “40 Under 40” and the “Bloomberg 50” in 2019.
