Breathing Easy: A History of the Iron Lung
Saturday, January 17
Noon – 12:15 pm
Level 5, Health Gallery
The iron lung is one of the most impactful medical advancements of the 20th century. Invented in 1928, this machine was instrumental in helping polio patients breathe easy during recovery, until a vaccine made the disease avoidable. The iron lung paved the way for modern ventilators and ICU wards, helping to usher in the modern era of critical care and life support.
Join health curator Miranda Smith for a 15-minute discussion on our recently acquired iron lung.
This is a drop-in activity included with your January 17 general admission ticket.
